Bakewell is Britain’s best large outdoor market

It's official! Derbyshire Dales District Council's fabulous weekly Bakewell market is the BEST large outdoor market in the country.

Our Monday market picked up the accolade today at the Great British Markets of the Year 2020 awards.

The District Council's events manager Dave Turvey and communities officer Nicola Goodwin received the award at the NABMA Annual Conference in Birmingham.

District Council Leader Councillor Garry Purdy said: "Bakewell has had a market since 1330 and that age-old tradition is something which still attracts visitors today. However, in recent years we have also been working very hard to modernise and further develop the market and I am thrilled that this work has paid off with national recognition."

Together with the regular livestock market at the District Council's Agricultural Business Centre, the Monday stall markets in the heart of Bakewell is a magnet for tourists and visitors as well as providing an essential service to the local community.

The market boasts around 100 stalls.
